International Contemporary Circus Festival

Cirkuliacija 2020

Virtual

The 2020 virtual international contemporary circus festival “Cirkuliacija” took place on June 6-14. The theme of the festival is “Private Zone”, and the special focus is on the Vilijampolė micro district of Kaunas. By moving the main program of performances to next year, the festival offered a unique opportunity to virtually get to know the festival participants.

The podcast marathon began with a meeting with the Finnish troupe of artists “Sisus Sirkus”, which will perform in Lithuania in 2021 with a female energy charge – the performance “Mosh Split”.

The acquaintance of five women, which began 10 years ago at the “Lahti” circus school, turned into a strong friendship. Having stepped foot in the circus world together, they decided to open the circus company “Sisus” in Finland. Circus artists who have successfully performed in various European countries go on long tours together with their babies and nannies.

This Finnish troupe is expected to present an energetic and Finnish humor-filled, head-turning performance “Mosh Split” in Kaunas next year, in which the audience will be treated to a variety of circus techniques: a Chinese pole, two swinging trapezes, pair and aerial acrobatics, and a Cyro bow.

During the podcast on June 7, one of the troupe’s performers – artist Inka Pehkonen – will talk about the strong friendship of the members of the company “Sisus Sirkus”, the concept of an irresistible woman, the challenges of gender inequality encountered on tours around Europe, the most important highlights of the performance “Mosh Split”, and will draw attention to the differences in the perception of modern circus in the world.

“Each character we show on stage reflects us. From the very beginning, we have been embodying characters that allow us to be ourselves, and over time this has taken on a different form and meaning – the show “Mosh Split” appeared, which sends a message about brave and powerful women, and we are very happy about that,” I. Pehkonen will tell during the conversation.

Guests of the virtual festival programme are “Sisus Sirkus” (Finland), “ENT Company” (Sweden), Ariel Bronz (Israel), “My!Laika” (France / Italy), John-Paul Zaccarini (Sweden), “Lion Lion Company” (Canada), Stacey Sacks (Zimbabwe / Sweden / Lithuania), “Circus eia” (Spain).

Broadcasted daily on the “Cirkuliacija” Facebook and “Teatronas” Youtube accounts.
